The Diocese of Greensburg seventh and eighth grade physical education curriculum is focused on meeting the Pennsylvania standards through lessons and activities that concentrate on physical fitness, cooperative games, and individual and team sports. Students in seventh and eighth grade will be using skills learned to this point in game situations focusing on strategy and team play. The seventh and eighth grade students will focus on these skills emphasizing interpersonal relationships with peers that focus on God and gospel values. Students are expected to change into gym clothes every day.

The Diocese of Greensburg health curriculum provides students with education in the areas of growth and development, physical health, nutrition, physical activity, first aid, safety and prevention, social health and relationships, consumer health, and substance abuse. Students will learn, evaluate, determine, analyze, and combine different health topics. Students will research health topics, discuss them with peers, and debate their merits. Students will apply health promotion concepts and skills to support a healthy, active lifestyle. Students will apply information about alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and medicines to make decisions that support a healthy, active lifestyle. Students will apply concepts of physical, social, and emotional aspects of human relationships to support a healthy, active lifestyle. Students will apply health-related and skill-related fitness concepts and skills to develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. This course implements Operation Prevention Program, is aligned to the PA Academic Standards for Health, Safety and Physical Education, 10th Grade, and is in line with the teachings and values of the Roman Catholic Church. This is a required course.

Physical Education as an independent study course is focused on students engaging in a Geibel Catholic High School team sport to maintain fitness and health. Activities will vary from student to student and should reflect a deliberate physical lifestyle. Students will report their participation in a Geibel Catholic sports team to the guidance office. Students will earn 0.25 credits towards physical education requirements, after verification with the team coach. Through contract physical education, students will learn and apply knowledge of physical education skills to improve and maintain a healthy body by increasing flexibility, muscle tone, coordination, aerobic conditioning, and/or motor skills. Possible qualifying team sports include golf, football, soccer, cross country, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, and trap teams. eSports does NOT meet the requirements for contract physical education credit. This independent study credit may be used twice between ninth and twelfth grade.
