2024 Carson Scholars
Geibel Catholic Junior High School’s nominee, Cortni Tinkey, has been selected as a 2024 Carson Scholar!
With this honor, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship award that will be invested for her college education. In addition, she will receive a medal and a certificate. Cortni’s name will also be added to our Carson Scholar School trophy in honor of her accomplishments.
We are equally proud of our previously honored Carson Scholars, Victoria Brown, Thomas Kolencik, Giana Holonich, and Troy Hoffer, who have been named as 2024 Recognized Carson Scholars! They each have already received the title of Carson Scholar and a $1,000 scholarship award! They will now receive a commemorative pin and certificate to acknowledge their continued academic and humanitarian achievements.
All of these students were chosen Carson Scholars because they demonstrate the highest standards of academic achievement, integrity, and civic and social responsibility and their academic achievements and humanitarian efforts make them stand out as leaders. They will be celebrated at the 20th Annual Carson Scholars Fund’s Pittsburgh Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Acrisure Stadium! Go Gators!
Congratulations to our three Geibel Catholic students who presented their scientific research at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional competition held at Pennsylvania Western University, California.
We are proud to announce that all three received First Place awards. Mazzy Tomallo, Claire Schuerholz, and Riley Zimmerman will now compete in May at the state competition at Penn State University.
In addition to her first place award, Mazzy received the PJAS High School Special Award in Behavioral Science.

As we begin Catholic Schools Week, Bishop Kulick celebrated Mass for the students at Geibel Catholic. During Mass, the junior class presented their class rings or other special pieces of jewelry for a blessing. May God bless these students, teachers, administrators & staff.

Sophomores Caleb Wells-Koury, Marcus Cooper, Aiden Holt, and Tony Startare won the Technology Integration award for their product “Terra Tech Lawn Care” at the Shark Tank competition at Penn State Fayette. In the same competition, capturing third place were sophomores Mazzy Tomallo, Riley Zimmerman, Carrie Jones, and Jenna Buchheit for their project “Future Prep.” Congrats, everyone!
Geibel Catholic was honored to host a College/Post Secondary Fair this afternoon! Many representatives from 4-year colleges/universities along with military, vocational technical, workforce, and community college representatives were on hand to answer the questions of students and families. Our school community seized the opportunity to explore the many options available for their futures. Thank you to Mrs. Susan Custer from IU1 and our guidance counselor Miss Jen Smith for their work in organizing such a successful event! Go Gators!

Seton Hill University Future Scholars Program
Geibel Catholic would like to extend our appreciation to Emily Filotei and Tiffany Pham who, as part of the Future Scholars Program at Seton Hill University, came in to teach a lesson to our 8th grade physical science class! They conducted a lesson around the protons, neutrons, and electrons of different elements on the Periodic Table and then created bracelets and keychains with our students to further demonstrate understanding. We are so grateful to partner with Seton Hill University in preparing future educators!
